The thyroid gland is located in our neck, just below the Adam’s apple, and it is one of the largest endocrine glands in the body. It controls how quickly our bodies use up energy, the process of making proteins, and how sensitive our body is to other hormones. It also produces other hormones that control growth rates of other organs.
Hyperthyroidism is basically an overactive thyroid, as it is over-producing its hormones. Hypothyroidism is the under-production of its hormones.
Over the years there have been various medications that have been given to help people regulate their thyroid. There have been studies that have concluded that since World War II there has been a marked increase of polyunsaturated fats and oils into the food chain. It concludes that this surge in polyunsaturated elements in our food has interfered with the proper functioning of our thyroid gland.
Unsaturated oils block thyroid secretion
Unsaturated oils tend to block thyroid secretion. One of the functions of thyroid is to regulate the amount of cholesterol is eliminated from our systems. If the hormone is not functioning properly, it is likely that the cholesterol level will be raised.
Soy was also introduced into our food chain in a big way. Studies have shown that soy increase in the diet will cause goiters, which is a thyroid disease. When the soy is decreased, or iodine is introduced into the diet, the goiters decrease.
Lauric acid
Amazingly, the discovery of coconut oil for thyroid health has gotten the attention of many. Coconut oil is very high in saturated fat which is healthy, lauric acid as well as what are called medium chain fatty acids.
Lauric acid is one of those rare substances in nature that is not found anywhere other than in coconut oil. When the body receives lauric acid, it is converted into monolaurin. Monolaurin is anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti protozoa. It kills all of those things, and there is nothing on earth that has as much lauric acid as does coconut oil.
Inflamation
Coconut oil directly hones in on inflammation and suppresses it. Coconut oil is very similar to mother’s milk as it protects against infection from bacteria, yeast, fungus, viruses, and parasites. It will kill bad bacteria, while leaving the good bacteria in the gut unharmed.
Inflammation in the body will suppress thyroid activity, and will cause disruption of normal thyroid activity. Long term suppression of some thyroid hormones can have cardiac side effects, and can contribute to osteoporosis. It can also cause elevated blood glucose levels.
Fluoride and drugs
There are things going on all around us that cause disruptions to our thyroid such as fluoride in our drinking water, getting older, too much sugar in our diets, popular prescription drugs, estrogen replacement therapy and our family history.
There is a concerted effort from the pharmaceutical industry against anything new that is a threat, especially if the new thing works.
Coconut oil has a history of reducing inflammation and of destroying harmful bacteria and pathogens that can affect the thyroid.
Coconut oil is not a cure-all for your thyroid all by itself. A person can take coconut oil orally, but many people incorporate it into their diets, use it as shortening, spreads, in drinks and on their skin as a moisturizer. They should eat responsibly and get proper exercise, and of course consume coconut oil
Coconut oil is a big help to your thyroid because it will stimulate the metabolism and boost your energy. It stops germs (the bad ones) in their tracks and boosts the immune system.
The long chain fatty acids that are included in vegetable oils are very damaging to the thyroid because they break down very quickly and become rancid. That is why vegetable oils are very well refined, which is further damaging to the thyroid. then the trans fat that gets deposited into the cells are mostly rancid and damaging. The rancid oil is then oxidized and causes great stress to the thyroid.
Substituting coconut oil for these polyunsaturated oils will eventually help to rebuild these damaged cells. People are reporting better thyroid health after switching to coconut oil for cooking, use on salads, and so forth.
Hypothyroidism is becoming an almost epidemic situation. It is estimated that at the present time there may be as many as 13 million people in the United States that are suffering from this condition.
Most of the problem seems to come from an inadequate diet and environmental factors such as an abundance of chemicals in every thing we touch and do. Consumption of iodine-rich foods can be a big help.
Coconut oil for thyroid health is a very good idea and a promising method of helping to restore our bodies from damaging diets and poor environmental factors. Eating in a healthy manner and avoiding environmental exposure to chemicals that can be harmful. Use coconut oil for all you can in salads, as spreads, in drinks, and even on your skin as a moisturizer, and you will probably begin to notice a positive change, as you discover coconut oil for thyroid health.
